Action Required: Prepare for Upcoming Transition
Current State (Pre-Transition)
The current Technical Service Provider (TSP) imposes a strict 60-day transfer lock on new registrations and transfers by applying the serverTransferProhibited EPP status at the registry level.
What Will Change After Transition
Tucows Registry Services does not enforce a registry-level 60-day transfer lock. In line with the ICANN Transfer Policy, the application of a 60-day transfer restriction is at the discretion of the registrar, not the registry. It is the registrar’s responsibility to manage this policy.
Key Changes to Expect
Registry-Level Lock Removal
Tucows Registry Services will discontinue the use of registry-imposed 60-day transfer locks. This means the registry will no longer automatically apply serverTransferProhibited status to newly registered or transferred domains.
Status Code Transition
During the transition, all domains currently under serverTransferProhibited status for 60-day transfer lock purposes will be automatically updated to clientTransferProhibited status.
Registrars that wish to continue enforcing a 60-day transfer restriction may do so by using the clientTransferProhibited status, in accordance with their own policies and implementation practices.
