RFC 8748 EPP Fee Extension 1.0 support for Radix OT&E and Production environments at Tucows Registry Services

Tucows Registry Services added support for RFC 8748 (EPP Fee Extension 1.0, namespace urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:epp:fee-1.0) alongside existing fee-0.7 support in the Radix Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) environment. This enhancement enables registrars transitioning from Radix's current Registry Service Provider (RSP) to use the latest fee extension protocol while maintaining compatibility with existing systems.

Affected TLDs: .fun, .host, .in.net, .online, .press, .pw, .site, .space, .store, .tech, .uno, and .website

fee-1.0 (RFC 8748) support will also be made available in other Tucows Registry Services instances. We will announce the availability and timelines for additional instances accordingly.

What's New

Dual Fee Extension Support

Both fee-0.7 and fee-1.0 extensions are now fully supported with no plans to deprecate fee-0.7. Registrars can:

  • Continue using fee-0.7 indefinitely
  • Transition to fee-1.0 at their own pace

Intelligent Per-Request Matching

When a registrar declares both extensions on login, our servers intelligently handle requests based on the version used:

  1. Extension included in request → The server responds with the same fee extension version
  2. No extension in request but response needs fee data →  The server automatically uses the highest declared version (fee-1.0 takes precedence)

This approach minimizes integration complexity and supports diverse technical requirements across registrar implementations.

Implementation Details

OT&E Testing Environment

Server: epp.ote.radix.host (TCP 700)

The OT&E environment is now available for comprehensive fee-1.0 testing. We encourage registrars to:

  • Validate fee-1.0 extension behavior in your testing environment
  • Verify compatibility with existing fee-0.7 implementations
  • Test the per-request extension matching solution

Production Availability

fee-1.0 and  fee-0.7 support will be available in Radix Production on transition day March 17, 2026
